Confused

My wife and two friends, H and N, have booked an Airbnb for the weekend to spend some time together and catch up. They’ve known each other since college and whilst N lives quite far away H lives twenty minutes and we see her often. The plan was she would drive to our place and then my wife would drive the two of them onwards and meet N at the rental.
As they got into my wife’s car I first hugged H goodbye and then kissed my wife goodbye wishing her fun and a good weekend. She then walked around the car to the drivers door and I said I love you. Because the car was between us and H was getting in on my side I said it with H in between us.
What struck me was that I’m not entirely sure which one I meant it to in that moment.
