Luck Happens, In The Most Unexpected Ways

I was a theatre arts major in college and lived around liberal kids, both politically and morally. The politics didn't bother me, the morals did. I just didn't get involved at the parties.

I was a 'member' of the college theatre. Along came the father of one of my friends and I became a puppy immediately. I got a reputation of being a Daddy's girl.

After college I continued with my passion at community theatre working part time as a cashier at the bookstore. A patron recognized me and he took me under his wing financially, so I could concentrate on my 'career'. Hugs and kisses became pats and petting, which became a moral issue.

He left me, I went back to the bookstore, doing my best to accept the reality of my career. Unpaid at my art, poorly paid in my part time job. A member at the professional theatre saw me, and felt I would do well in an upcoming play. Small speaking part. But in front of paying patrons. Off and on I got cast at the theatre, my scale pay plus my part time job I was one step above starving artist.

I became friends with the woman that first cast me and she invited me into her circle. Old men, old women. Donors. Older men, older women. Patrons. Younger men, younger women. Guests. Young men, young women. Starving Artists.

A middle aged man put out feelers and I found myself at dinner. He was smooth. I blushed, uncontrollably. When he called I fainted, almost. When he rang my doorbell I jumped, panted, swooned. Before I knew it I was caught, hook, line and sinker. I gave up pretending, I was Daddy's girl after all. And he was a Daddy all around, and coincidently both a patron and a donor.

Wicked tongues say my rise within the theatre was orchestrated by him. But true patrons know I carry the weight of my parts on my shoulders. But the truth be told it's both, he wants me in the best parts. I have to earn the part, and carry it through. I explain these things to a young woman intern who is a product of my theatre arts program at my Alma Mater.
