A Short Story And The Long And Short Of It

A short story. I grew up in a religious family in Central America. My first independence was being allowed to study abroad, an American university. I lived with three other foreign students. One of our roommates was very promiscuous. She had sex in our apartment with more than one partner.

It was during my junior year that I met a friend of one of her partners. At a party he insisted on having sex with me. All my virginities were lost that night. And my innocence. I had never been the object of a man.

The long story is that I was never anyone else's. I've been married over forty years to that man. He loves me, but is not in love with me. Last Friday I joined him for dinner with one of his lovers. She was very nice, he always finds attractive intelligent women, professionals. Never a waitress type. We had a very nice lunch, I will join her at the ballet again this season. My husband gave us side by side season tickets.

My favorite is a younger Latina woman, we can speak Spanish. She is me except she could be my daughter. She is the one he is in love with and she is in love with him. She lost all her virginities to him as well. We have bonded, over that and that we are in love with the same man.
