Unintended Consequences Living The Life Of A Housewife
I resigned my commission to be with my girlfriend. I met her while stationed in Germany. She's Belgian, a freelance photographer. After I left the service, I was a Jr. Officer in the Air Force, maintenance not a pilot, our thing ended. She wanted to go to a war zone, I was completely against it. She went off to the DR Congo.
Without a job or a visa I returned home to get my life going. My degree is in History, I missed the organization and structure and felt out of place as a civilian. Broken up from my relationship, which my family was unaware of. My town isn't big enough for a ladies' hangout. I did meet a third grade teacher, but she was totally Suzy homemaker.
I ran into a high school classmate, he was divorced with two small children and his ex had left to find herself. He returned home for his parent's help with the children. He roped me in for a park outing, then a movie, then a night over. I told him I had made a mistake, I wasn't wife material.
But I got pregnant, and I had become attached to his children, and I agreed to marry him. Overnight I was a pregnant housewife. With the birth of my son, things got unmanageable. In walks my fellow lesbian, let her help me with the housewife and new mother business.
I had another infant, this one's a girl. That makes a four children household, our lives near poverty. My helpful Suzy homemaker makes it worth it. Both the emotional connection and her homemaker commitment. My husband sails along as if nothing's happening, he is above all the noise, his four children are thriving, so why pick at the obvious? I'm back in the world of don't ask don't tell. But this time I can't resign my commission.
