Unapologetic Daddy's Girl

I'm one of those women who as a kid I grew up in a hippy household. My mother was a single mother, my bio father never heard from. I was four and I developed a facial paralysis. We lived in a garage apartment, and the landlady had a son in college. He looked at my face and took me to see a doctor on campus. The doctor examined me and felt I had a psychological issue.

My mother was angry, she yelled and screamed at him, kicking him, and crying. He held her off, before putting her in a headlock. Walked her around, still screaming and yelling, telling her to settle herself down before he would release her. All this happened outside, where the cars were parked.

To shut her up he told her I needed a father and as far as she was concerned he was now my daddy. He meant every word of it. He moved his stuff out of the house into our apartment. He moved into my mother's bedroom. He told me that I was to call him Daddy, and told my mother like it or not she was married.

There wasn't doors for the bedroom, and only a bead curtain for the bathroom. I heard everything as my mother became his wife that evening. He called me to their bedroom for my mother to tell me he was now my Daddy.

He drove me to the sitter's, he took me with him to the lab on campus, always introduced me as his daughter. As I went through grade school he was at my dance rehearsals, my piano rehearsals, we moved into a house when he finished college, I called his mother grandma. My mother got pregnant and I got my brother, later she got pregnant and I had a little sister. He adopted me officially.

We were all college age when we were called to the house and we met a preacher, he was there to marry my parents. By then the hippy argument of not needing a paper had gotten old and my mother wanted a ring and a marriage certificate. When she was buried, she wanted her name to be the same as her children's.

The 'folks' travel a lot, all over the world. The girls both have families, the boy is a poet, musician, and a bohemian. The hippy gene is in him. He has an equally bohemian 'woman' living with him.

My facial paralysis wasn't there one morning, when I was crawled in bed with my parents.
