Niece Wants A Baby And It's Causing Marital Discord
Earlier this year I could tell she was unhappy. We meet for coffee every few months. I asked what was wrong. She confided that she and her husband had been trying for a baby, with no success after two years.
Then, she dropped a bombshell. She knew the fertility issue lay with her husband. In college she had had a secret abortion. Early in their marriage, she had had a miscarriage from a one-night stand. Like most men, her husband has too much pride (really, too much fear) to admit he has a problem and go get his sperm tested.
I took a minute to process the gravity of everything she'd told me.
The only thing I could do was say how sorry I was to hear all of that, and take her hand to comfort her. She said, "Don't be sorry, just agree to help me." I asked what I could possibly do to help. "Give me your sperm!" I needed another moment to process.
We've talked a lot since. She is tracking her ovulation. The plan is that we'll meet at a hotel, I'll go into the bathroom and jerk off in a cup, and we'll inject the sperm near her cervix, using a proverbial turkey baster.
We've also agreed that if it doesn't take after two months, we'll switch to natural sex. It will have to be sex only, with no touch, kissing, or romance, because we do not intend to cheat on our spouses.
What I need is your honest guidance...
1. Is it OK for me to say yes to my niece? Why or why not?
2. If you're a man: Have you helped a friend or relative conceive? Who? How did it affect your relationship?
3. If you're a woman: Did a friend or relative help you to conceive? How did everything turn out?
Thank you for hearing me out.
