The Gentleman

I traveled alone after my husband passed. I won't say I got used to it. I did a river cruise and a gentleman took pity. He escorted me, took his dinner with me, and before the cruise ended, he showered me with intimacy. For a lady my age that was unexpected.

I carry that trip where ever I go. A gentleman with intentions, but a gentleman. Who he really is? I have no idea, the personal information he shared with me has gone nowhere. I've accepted it, my husband had been the only one, I never cheated. Still, the gentleman wasn't real. I know now that gentlemen search out lonely women. In that sense it's taking advantage, in another sense, it is giving us freedom.

You will always love and remember and cherish your husband, as you should. But he is gone and you are still very much alive and it’s ok to seek out and want intimacy. It’s natural and we all need intimacy with someone, whether that means sex or just a deeper connection. Don’t close yourself off from that wonderful part of life. Seek it out. Maybe that particular gentleman on the cruise is not available, but there are many more.
