Generational Differences?
For example, my generation seems to be more open and less affected by societal sexual taboos than older generations. Maybe with the exception of my great grand parents who came of age in the mid1960s. They had some interesting experiences to say the least.
Jeff and I met in college when I was 19 and we each had friends with benefits. It was no big deal. When we fell in love and became a couple, each of us continued to sleep with friends as well. Neither of us questioned each other's love and for the most part had no jealous feelings about each other's casual lovers. Maybe it's just because we are young. Jeff and I have an active sex life together and we have tried all sorts of things. In addition to sleeping with friends, I have experienced threesomes, a couple of parties where everyone fucked everyone, some bondage, and other erotic fun. I tried another woman once and discovered I was not a lesbian. Again, sex is just part of life and should be enjoyed to the fullest as long as you are able. At least that is our point of view. Our relationship is not threatened by this stuff.
So, I have been surprised by confessions with themes (both positive and negative) about being slutty, cheating, doing "daring" things, secrets, unfulfilled common fantasies, raving on about anal sex, problems with "unfaithful" partners, penis size, fixation on sex outside the marriage, and so forth. These do not come up among our friends. A lot of it just seems weird to me. I mean, who cares? If Jeff enjoys sex with a friend of ours, it is okay. I know he loves me and vice versa.
So, what gives? Is there a generational difference? Or, am I just imaging a difference? For Jeff and me most everything is fine if it is fun and feels good, and, importantly, does not hurt another person physically or psychologically. How do you know about potential hurt? If there is a possibility, you talk about it and find understanding. How hard can it be? Anyway, just my take.
