It might be better if you do not start off with them. Wear pads, they are less uncomfortable. Plus there are some problems theat may come along with using tampons such as toxic shock syndrome, which may occur from using them for a certain period of time. No pun intended. As you get older , you may decide what is best for you, but starting off using tampons may not be such a good thing.

The "18 or older" thing is more a guideline. In this case, I let the question slide because it was not about sex - it is a legitimate question that may have been poorly asked, but could be important to know the answer to. Just follow the instructions on the little piece of paper in the box they come in. If you follow them it shouldn't hurt. That's all i can really say. When I first used them it didn't hurt it just felt weird puttin them in.
