I am 23 and a single mother. I am also African American. Everyone new I meet assumes that I am on welfare or that my mother is raising my baby while I run the streets looking for a man. But really I am in graduate school and work part-time as a research assistant. This is especially a problem with men.

I don't meet many African-American men my age at school or work, so I mostly don't date. One white guy asked me out, but then he backed out when he learned I had a child.

What is going on? I am attractive (5'7", athletic build, good teeth, Halle Berry haircut), intelligent (BS in Chemistry, working on an MS), and fun-loving (I love extreme sports, comedy clubs, dancing, anything you name). I have my own car and apartment. Between my scholarship, job, and support from my daughter's dad, I don't need money from a new boyfriend.

Why don't men want to date me?

Different guys I'm sure have different reasons but formost I would have to say; at your young age I doubt your typical white guy is looking for a black girl with anothers baby. At older ages "baggage" becomes very common and these days you find many guys with the kids so the "baggage" becomes a non issue.

This is a simple one! Just put a smile on your face and all the guys will be asking for you phone number. Sometimes it is the simple things in life that seem to slip away. People like to be around happy people and if you show you are a happy person you can't go wrong. I hope this helps :)

Single mom with a kid is a liability for someone looking for a short term relationship. Also, many white males see a relationship with a black young lady more of a fantasy or an item on a bucket list than someone they want to start a family with.
Look well around, your soulmate may not be black or white, he maybe anyone that truly see their future with you.
