I'm an older (42) male that's been out of the dating scene for too long. I've met this very nice waitress that's half my age and I would like to ask her out.
Can you give me some pointers? There's also a race difference - I'm white, she's black. Do you think that may be an issue?
Also, this is not a sexual quest or midlife crisis. I would just like to get to know her, then see where it goes from there.

For one, race doesn't matter. But in my oppinion, age does, despite the popular notion that it doesn't. I've got a divorce under my belt due to a fourteen year differance with my ex (I'm currently married to a sweet guy only five years older than me). But if you must, try being her friend first.

Well, Mr. White, first of all you need to go to your local record store and buy a whole bunch of Hip Hop CDs.
Listen to them over and over until you've got the patter down.
Practice calling your intended target 'ho', 'bitch', and 'baby mother'.
A little slapping her around wouldn't hurt neither - but wait until after the first date or two.
Get some wrap around shades, wear them even on the darkest nights.
Start wearing a lot of gold jewelry.
Pretty soon she'll be eating out of the palm of your hand!

Seriously, though, it sounds as though this is some woman whom you just have a thing for from seeing her at a diner or some such place.
And you're just heading into divorce court.
Maybe you should rethink this idea a bit.

the color issue is only an issue if u make it that. enjoy the diff in culture-both of u should, or just forget it. but the age thing, come on--u know better. she may not, but you do.
