I've been in a similar situation. My husband's sister is married to a career criminal. Most of his crimes are pretty petty, but he spends more time in jail/prison than out. As soon as he gets out, he 1) gets drunk or stoned, 2) knocks her up, and 3) commits another crime. They have six kids like steps (7, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 11 mos) and I suspect that she is concealing a seventh pregnancy. As a result, my in-laws are selling their home and moving into a 1 bedroom apt. to help out financially. I suspect this will come back to bite us since we will need to help them when their savings are used up. Sigh.
