I thought that my new BF gave me an STD, but my dr said that it's just an overgrowth of bacteria in my vagina. She gave me some cream to put down there, but it feels weird and I still itch. Why did this happen?

Because you're dirty down there. Try some soap and water.

whatever you do don't use soap- you'll remove the protective natural acidity. use the cream and if it doesn't work go back to the doctor. or try putting natural yogurt up there - it has "good bacteria" and should clear up any yeasties. it is messy tho

Vaginal bacterial infections have nothing to do with being dirty. In fact, they often have to do with being too clean. In Western culture, women's addiction to douches and feminine sprays destroys the vagina's natural ability to regulate its own cleanliness. When I lived in Mali in the Peace Corps, women never had yeast infections or other such complaints. I stopped douching and have never had a single problem since.
