I had just turned twelve and had had my period for a couple of months. My cycle was totally irregular because I had just gotten it, so I often was on it for days at a time or had a very heavy flow. One day, I was sitting in my fifth period math class wearing these thin athletic pants. When I stood up, I saw that my chair was all sticky with rusty-red goo smeared all over it. I couldn't tell my teacher the situation because my math teacher was a male. Luckily, the person sitting there next period was a good friend of mine. So, I pushed my chair in all the way and walked sheepishly into the hall, trying to keep people from seeing the seat of my pants, which I knew were in the same condition as the chair. I then told my friend my situation and quickly went to sixth period study hall. I should've helped her clean the seat but I was too embarrassed. I had to wear a winter jacket the rest of the day to cover my butt and I looked like such a dork.

How gross; you probably need to be on "the pill," which will regualate your cycle.

Haven't you ever read body books? It's totally normal to be "off" the first one or two years. It's possible to be normal, but not common.

ORIGINAL POSTER: It's been about a year. They still haven't. :( Hopefully they will soon. Whoever was regualar from the time their period first started, you are very lucky! Mine often catches me off-guard, and the only warning I get is a dull cramp a few hours before it starts.

Maybe what you should do is just wear a pad around the time you'd expect it to come. Pay attention to the symptoms you have before your period starts and wear a pad when you notice them.

First of all being "irregular" or "abnormal" for the first THREE years is common, if not expected. Those of you who think differently are wrong...even women who've been menstruating for ten years don't bleed to the exact 28th date. Sometimes your a few days off, but in your first two years you can skip a month or double up (or get a surprise attack) at any time. This is normal, and albeit upsetting/embarassing, seeing a doctor won't help. And please don't start the pill at 12-13. It's not healthy to begin that sort of birth control until your 16, and even then it's very bad for you!!
