I shave that entire area, and I have never had a problem with itching or rashes. I do it with a razor and shaving gel. Just be careful and take your time.
Lasering is good. It hurts more than waxing and it's really expensive BUT it will get rid of the hair and prevent regrowth for about 1 or 2 years. In the long run I'd say it's worth it. I use lasering, but only for my bikini line... there are some health risks with taking all the hair off.
I have been going bare for years because I like it for myself not just for my boyfriend. I never really have a problem with itching because I use a moisterizing shave gel and exfoliate the area often with a body scrub to prevent ingrown hairs.
