There is a group of young people (teens? early 20's?) who have made my street the official hangout.
Now, this is the result of permissive parenting and general apathy from the homeowner and mother of one of these derelicts.

Anyway, we're all really tired of coming home to see a bunch of strangers hanging around our neighborhood, literally every night.
And of course, they all have annoying ricer mufflers and like to race up and down the street, run stop signs while drunk and/or high and cause general anxiety for the neighborhood.

Right now, I'm not even sure how many people are living there, because half of them spend the night, on a rotating basis, every goddamn night.
It's only a matter of time before we're inundated with burglary and vandalism.

You get the picture, right?

The cops have been pretty ineffective in the matter and I'm beginning to think these people are never going to leave.

So I put it to you folks, how can we get rid of this element?
Anyone have any non-violent, predominantly legal ideas?

Generally speaking, in a situation such as you describe, the cops are only effective if they can be lured into the area long enough and are otherwise diligent, surreptitious and especially - perspicacious enough to actually catch someone breaking some law.

Do you personally know anyone on the city payroll involved with law enforcement?

Alternately, bear in mind that whatever laws that are being perverted, circumvented or otherwise ignored can be expensive if the observation and enforcement of those laws are invoked by a private citizen on an elective basis - and that expense can cut any number of ways.

Are you sure any law is being broken?

If you can summon the collective focus some of your other righteously indignant neighbor's dwindling attention spans long enough, you might, with these other indubitably stalwart paragons of modes, virtues and manners - be able to simply draw attention to the fact that all these shady, disreputable and potentially malevolent 'teenagers' are themselves the subject of concentrated scrutiny, &agrave la neighborhood watch.

That, in itself, might be enough to disperse the gathering.

One thing you could do is buy a video camera and tape what is going on in your street and then show it to the cops.Until then I am not sure how helpful they will be.
