I knew about that, but never paid it much mind untill one day my neighbors 15 year old daughter said, I know what you and -----did last night, dad and I heard you and him talking over the scanner before he got here. The secret was out then, but we never used the cell to call again.

Do people w/ cellfones think their conversations are confidential?

All you have to do is be within twenty feet of most idiots and their cellfones to know the complete content of the conversation.

NO technology involved - just normal hearing capacity and the desire to eavesdrop.

Cell phones or what people are saying don't bother me at all, I live in a world of silence, yeah, I'm stone deaf.

Have you always been deaf? If given the choice, and you had to pick one, would you rather be deaf or blind?

I'm neither deaf nor blind, but given a choice I'd rather be deaf I think.

Either would be hard. I can't imagine a world without sound, without music, laughter, the sounds of nature. But to never see the vastness of the ocean or a beautiful sunset, or the smile on the face of someone you love, that too would be tragic. I have a friend that has been blind since birth. He's in his early 50's. I posed the same quetion to him and he said "Oh, God, I can't imagine being deaf!" I guess you can't miss what you've never had.
I guess you were joking when you wrote your comment. I took you literally! Kind of like "I'm deaf in one ear and I can't hear out of the other" type of thing.

Regardless, the topic I believe was cordless phones. I'd love to know if my neighbors were listening. I'd say all types of "interesting" things and see what response or whisperings I'd receive in return!

That's only true of old analog cordless phones. If your phone is somewhat recent (within 6 or 7 years old) and is digital or better yet, spread spectrum, it takes some pretty fancy equipment to listen to the good ones.

My neighbors also had an old analog phone some years ago and my entertainment for the afternoon was listening to the neighbor's teenage girl talk about her dear boyfriend 'peckerhead' to her friends.

You'd also be shocked at the range some of those old phones had. You can pick some of them up from a mile away, so if you do have an old analog cordless and you're saying things that will get you into trouble, you might want to shop for a new phone.

I heard about cordless phones, and police monitors that my neighbors were listening. So I called Sprint and the lady told me that they have something in their system were all these assholes with police monitors can't listen. This was 7 or 8 years ago, I called!!

It must be illegal. But I am sure it is one of those things that is hard to catch.
