Where do you live? The private person's power of arrest is extremely limited in most places, limited to the commission of a felony or treason, for example. Unless having a loud dog is a felony where you live, the neighbor is full of crap.
To protect yourself, you could get other neighbors to certify that they do not unreasonably hear your dogs.
I live in California. Even though we have some really weird laws I doubt that barking dogs is a felony. I have thought of talking with other neighbors and will probably do that. I am also seeing an attorney to find out if I need to be represented in court. I'm also keeping a log of exactly when I let the dogs out and when they come in. I just have 2 Great Pyrenees -- not 10 or 20 dogs. I realize that most people will probably think that "where there's smoke there's fire" but in this case I think the neighbor is overly sensitive or just doesn't like us for some reason. It just makes me so angry that someone would go so far with this. Thanks for answering my message. It helps just to let off some steam.
In all fairness, I know that people can be spiteful, but who is to say that person is not really being affected by your dogs barking. I own dogs myself, and of course they do bark at times…that's what dogs do. However, when neighbors complain about dogs, stereo, rowdy kids etc. you should take it into some kind of consideration. Regardless if it's night or day, a barking dog can be annoying as a honking car horn.
Start taking care of YOUR dogs, and your neighbor will leave you alone, How come people with the barking dogs think THEIR the victom, pull your head out of your ass and become a good pet owner.
Actually, a lot of people have nothing better to complain about. If it's not a barking dog, it's a loud kid, an unkempt yard..whatever. Some people just are here to make others miserable.
Absolutely you are right. A barking dog that barks continually would annoy me too. It's interesting to note
that although animal control has been to our neighborhood at least 6 times they have never found a violation. I agree with you though that somehow my dogs are affecting this particular neighbor. The question as I see is whether her being affected is her problem because she is overly sensitive or my problem because my dogs are too noisey and I am somehow oblivious to the problem. My daughter lived with us for 8 months until a week ago. Her baby was born in April and there were never any problems with the baby being able to sleep. My daughter would have no second thoughts about complaining to me if she had a problem with the dogs. Also, my neighbors on each side of me and across the street say that my dogs are not bothering them. I do appreciate your response.
Thank you for taking the time to respond. I believe that I am taking care of my dogs. When I first received a complaint from the county animal control it stated that a neighbor complained that my dogs bark all day and all night. If that were the case, indeed I would have a case of having my head in my ass -- but my dogs always are in the house overnight and in and out during the day. Other neighbors say that my dogs don't bother them at all. But I agree that somehow my dogs are affecting my neighbor. Could it be that she is overly sensitive? My dogs are not out for more than an hour to an hour and a half at any one time and they do not bark continually when they are out. Because this one neighbor complains am I then obligated to take extraordinary measures such as getting rid of the dogs or having them debarked surgically. Should one neighbor be allowed that much control over another neighbor's existance?
If they have kids, turn them in to Social Services for abusing their kids. You can do this annonymously, and even though it isnt true, it puts them through hell. They have to have interviews with everyone, and they have to prove that they are not abusive parents.
I know, because my neighbor got mad at me and did it just to be mean!
You know I actually thought of doing that. I'm just not sure I could live with the possible consequences of that action. It would serve them right, but if the child suffered because of it I couldn't live with myself. Thanks for the thought though. I have contacted legal counsel who said I could sue them for harrassment and she believes we will win. I think I'll try that route -- ought to at least get their attention.
