Respectfully, you sound like dirtbags. Your neighbor is trying to document such. But I'm sure everybody already knows that you're trash, but their isn't anything much that can be done about it, these days.
He can legally videotape ANYTHING he can point his camera at from his own property. So if you trashy people are having sex in your bedroom and he films it from his that is perfectly legal because you dirtbags are doing whatever you're doing in public. It would be illegal when he is on YOUR property outside your window pointing the camera into your bedroom.
why don't you TRY not be such trailer trash and maybe he'll stop trying to drive you from what he feels would otherwise be a much nicer neighborhood.
He can also film anything he wants from PUBLIC property, not just his property.
Again, Your problem is this man nows dirtbags when he sees them. He wants a nice, quiet, high quality, high class neighborhood. What you want is a dirty, noisy, low quality, low class neighborhood. One filled with dogs, pickup trucks, motorcycles, trailers, dead grass and rusted cars you're "going to restore someday."
Don't worry. This is the normal course of all neighborhoods. Here is the life cycle of a neighborhood:
1.) New homes are built with the promise that wonderful housing will be affordable for the working man. They design features such as garages in the rear to make sure the neighborhood is pretty by putting the cars out of site in the back.
2.) People who have money and other people who can only afford "affordable homes" move in next to each other. This is part of some idiots feeling that all the classes should live together. The "affordable home" people find the rear garages take a little effort and immediately begin parking their pickup trucks on the street. The "have money" people complain to the association which says there's nothing they can do about it.
3.) The "affordable home" people feel an unexplainable and obviously primal urge go to the dog pound and pay $25.00 to buy an animal that weighs 130 pounds and which does nothing but eat, shit and bark. The "have money" people find these animals trashy and tire quickly of the barking. They complain repeatedly to the association and the city both of which say there's nothing they can do about it.
4.) The "affordable home" people start home-based businesses in the back yard. Usually a Sanford and Son type operation. They also have 4 pickup trucks parked on the street, of course in front of the "have money" people's homes. The "have money" people complain to the association which says there's nothing they can do about it.
5.) The neighborhood begins to decay as the "affordable home" people fail to maintain their houses, the dogs bark constantly, the streets are litered with pickup trucks and inoperative vehicles. The "have money" people start writing urgent letters to the association trying desperately to reverse the slide. Your neighbor has chosen to video tape the trashy dirt bags that he finds himself next to. He doesn't realize that there's no hope. The "affordable home" people don't want the neighborhood to be nice. The "have money" people are making their last effort to save the area from the destruction that always follows when the upper classes make the mistake of living in the same nieghborhood as the lower.
6.) The neighborhood continues to decay. The association refuses or is powerless to help. The "have money" people see the writing on the wall (literally!) and move before it's too late.
7.) Mexicans move in and complete the destruction of the nieghborhood. The "affordable home" people wonder "What happened!!!???"
8.) The "affordable home" people move farther out to another brand new neighborhood of cookie cutter houses and begin the process again.
Whoa! Where in this person's complaint does anyone get the idea that THEY are dirtbags? Certainly not from the person's writing.
It seems to me that the people (or one person) who is responding to this has some issues with their own neighborhood. They did say one thing of truth, though. You really can't get this guy for videotaping what goes on in the street.
Wow. I can't believe all the asshole replies to your post. I live in a neighborhood that has $250,000 + homes. Kids and adults playing in the street is called living a life. Some of the reply posters should get one.
I am the original poster...we are all professional, honest hard working families on this street that have home which value above what the first few reply posters could ever expect to earn in your lifetime. I thought I might get a good idea of what action to take next with our neighbor....all I REALLY got from reading your posts is an additional prayer that the early posters are not my neighbors as well. God Bless YOUR neighbors...they will need it!
Like I said:
7.) Mexicans move in and complete the destruction of the nieghborhood. The "affordable home" people wonder "What happened!!!???"
You and all the people who agree with you still don't understand that your neighbor is taping you because he FINDS YOU UNDESIRABLE! He feels the neighborhood would be better if you would leave. You won't. Because you and the other trash agree with each other that the retired cop is the problem, it certainly couldn't be you. Never you mind that the retired policeman has seen many, many years of low live scum and thought that now, in his old age, he could retire in peace and forget about the mean streets. but you will have none of that. You will distroy the neighborhood and his home. that's fine. you don't know your doing it. you can't help it. you are wonderful people.
question: does the cop video tape the people who don't act like a bunch of trash?
The "action you should take next" (but will not) is to at least ACT like you've got some class, train your trashy dog to poop in his own yard and make sure the sound of the dog's barking doesn't cross the property line. The action you should take, Sir, is respect your neighbors right to live with a little peace, quiet and dignity in his own home.
but, as i've said, you won't do this. You can't. You will talk about being "professional" and all about what a wonderful person you are while ignoring that the poor man next door is making what most likely is his last pathetic attempt to maintain his quality of life and the quality of the neighborhood.
But you don't give a damn about him or the neighborhood! You only care about you! How dare he not like you or your dog! The bastard!
You think you're just living. What you're actually doing is trying to live with him! You want to impress and entertain him. I hate to break it to you but the man does not want to be impressed or entertained and he certainly doesn't want you to live with him. Try keeping you're lifestyle on your side of the property line and see how fast the camera is put away. Have you sent the dog to be trained not to bark? Do you keep the dog in your own back yard? While in the front yard is the dog on a leash as propably required by the fricking law of your city? The answer to all these questions is probably "Hell no!"
Can your "professional" boom box that you no doubt blast outdoors be heard on the other side of your property line? Sure can. "What's the matter? Old asshole doesn't like music!!??" you say.
Again: To get along with your neighbor try respecting his right to live his life on his side of the property line with dignity and class. He is looking for a little peace, quiet and dignity. That's all. He doesn't want to film you. He doesn't want to complain to the association. What the poor man wants is to not have a bunch of trailer trash living next door to him !!
The are trailer trash. A police officer finds them undesirable and feels no other alternative but to film them and beg the authorities (the association) to help him maintain his quality of life. That the association is powerless doesn't surprise me a bit. Homeowners associations are only as good as the homeowners. Don't worry, the police officer will move if his neighborhood continues to decay (and my experience is, it will.), leaving the trailer trash to wonder "what happened?!" when the cop's house and the other homes of the quality people who are driven out are sold to Mexicans.
Again, don't worry. The cop will move. And you and all the other wonderful people can destroy the neighborhood without being bothered by that asshole again!
To the guy who keeps saying that the original poster is trailer trash; did you even READ the original post?
You keep saying that they are trailer trash. Why? Because they have a dog? Because they have kids that play in the street (a cul de sac, no less) with the other kids in the neighborhood? What is with this agenda of yours? Did it ever occur to you that maybe the cop is just a bitter old man, who yes, may want some peace and quiet?
Remember, he may live there, but so do the other people.
How many of your neighbors have you pissed off with your attitudes?
Oh, and please learn how to spell.
Yes, I read the post. Did you read the replies?
Here are my points:
1.) You have no right to pollute the commons.
Your must at least make some effort not to negatively impact others. This preception of negative impact is in his opinion, not yours. Does the dog bark? Are the kids just playing or screaming bloody murder? Before you blame the victim look at the situation from his perspective.
2.) You must follow all laws, codes and ordinances.
I'm willing to bet you $5.00 the dog is running loose without a leash. This would be against the law. The dog's barking is also against (in most towns anyway) the law. You, as all dog owners, think the dog is a cute and wonderful addition to the neighborhood. In most cases this is certainly NOT the case. They are loud, trashy animals that serve no more purpose than when Tom Hank's painted the face on his soccor ball in a pathetic quest for companionship. But dog owners either don't know this or don't care. I suspect they just don't care.
3.) Most people don't want things nice. I'm sure you've worked hard to acquire nice things. I'm also sure you park these nice things on the street as you really don't realize or don't care that this BY ITSELF makes the neighborhood look rundown. What have you done to make things nice? What do you do to show respect for those around you? Not much. You don't care. You just want to play and "dogs will be dogs" after all, which, by the way, is animal owner code for "Go to hell if you don't like it!" It's so much easier to hate an old man than to respect that when you allow your lifestyle to get out of control you are taking from him his right to enjoy HIS lifestyle. But again, you don't care.
4.) Few people notice and they don't understand that what separates the ultra rich areas from the lower class areas is respect. Respect for other people and respect for the neighborhood. Go to the richest part of a major city, where the homes cost $5,000,000 or more. Where the homes are owned by hugely sucessful businessmen, not doctors and lawyers (both middle class occupations, by the way) Walk down the street. What will you see? People who care. There are no cars parked on the street, the lawns are perfect, 75 year old homes look like they were built yesterday. The lower classes think this is a function of money. Bullshit! It is a function of caring. Caring is a function of class and vice versa. That's all. But this is completely lost on the vast majority of people in this world. There is NO reason a neighborhood of $75,000 cottages couldn't be exactly the same way. The same quality. All the same, just smaller, that's all. The ONLY difference is the people in the cheap neighborhood don't care. THEY WILL SAY THEY DO! But saying it and putting it into action are two completely different things. While walking down the street what will you hear? Nothing. No screaming, no barking, no roaring hotrod engines, no radios. Nothing. Why? Because this would be unfair to those around them and the upper-upper-upper class cares for and respects the people around them. That's the only difference, they care. Your original post indicates you don't care. Well, you do actually, but only about yourself.
They make jokes in movies about New York Coop apartments. They joke that there is a board that interviews tenants to keep out the riff-raff. They show these people as old, bitter, mean, hate filled jerks just like you describe the the poor pathetic police officer. But the film makers miss the whole point. The board isn't looking for fellow rich snobs. The board is looking for people who will be happy living there! Because the ultra upper class will not tolerate the trashy lifestyle of MOST people. Most people would find living next door and around people of this quality just terrible. Much like you find living next to the cop with his high demands of a quality lifestyle unbearable. If your neighborhood had a board to interview new residents they could have saved you this terrible experience you're going through now. But alas, below the level of quailty people i'm talking about even if there were a board they would agree with you that the real problem is this ASSHOLE COP'S EXPECTATIONS ARE TOO HIGH! Please read that sentence again: this ASSHOLE COP'S EXPECTATIONS ARE TOO HIGH!!!! That's what you are saying. Sir, I realize you will never understand but.... don't you understand? You, and people like you (99% of the U.S. population, I'd guess.) want the neighborhood to be sort of, well, crappy. It's more fun that way. The "bitter" old cop should expect and understand that having things nice takes effort that most people just are not able or willing to give. You're right. He **should** move. But the problem is that the lifestyle he wants can only be - must be - bought with a great deal of money. Like I've said, at least $5,000,000.
He doesn't have that kind of cash. So the poor dumb bastard is trying to turn what he can afford (your neighborhood) from a pigs ear into a silk purse. I know for a fact, and soon enough he will too, that this is impossible. You won't stand for it and the other neighbors won't stand for it. You and the other neighbors will fight the guy until he gives up and moves. That's what the lower classes do. And when he does move you, the neighbors and ever dog in the neighborhood will gather around the moving fan and laugh and cheer and bark that this asshole is finally moving. That now you can make the neighborhood into what you want it to be. Drive around some more and make a note: Every neighborhood is EXACTLY what the people who live there want it to be. From the richest neighborhood to the dirtiest, darkest slum. It's too bad. But that's the way it is.
Wow! Outstanding.
Ok now I'm confused, the original post said that sometimes the dogs get out, not always or running all over the neighborhood, but sometimes. I grew up in an I guess upper-middle class neighborhood, large well kept homes (no cars parked in the street) but we played outside in the street, so that shouldn't be considered trashy? Right? I will agree with some of the points about the people who care and the ones who use their front yards as parking lots, however, the original poster only says that they are video taped all the time and sometimes dogs get out and when kids play outside this man calls the police. Are you reading more into his comments? Maybe the original poster can provide some additional information about the neighborhood.
Next time you know he is video taping you have the children streak through the neighborhood and then call the police on him for video taping child pornography This should put an end to his video antics
Some of these posts are very insighful. And I agree with the concept of lower class vs upper class: It is a matter of "care." Care of one's property and strife to attain an area in which to live without being subjected to low class idiots who insist on playing in the street. People play in the street get killed. Don't you remember your mother telling you not to play in the street? I learned this in kindergarten. It is an eye-sore when people are playing in the street--play in your backyard. That is what it is for. You people must really be ignorant not to know that people don't want, nor care what you are engaging in. Why must you show off and have everyone watch you in the middle of the road? Frankly, too many cars, trucks, SUVs, campers, snowmobiles, kids on skateboards, and parents drinking beer in the front yard is disgusting!! Clean up your act and start caring about your environment.
I agree 100%. No matter what your economical status is, you cherish what you have and conduct yourself with dignity.
It seems alot of people like to flaunt what they have even though they bought it on credit and will be in debt for the rest of their life. They will never get ahead because of their greed.
My grandparents had something going. When they died my mother found out they had a lot of money in banks and stocks. They lived like paupers because they were afraid of something happening and being left with nothing. They also felt it was also gauche to flaunt one's wealth for the sake of keeping up with the Jones'.
