Setting The Record Straight

The narrative of high school girls being sluts and giving out sex doesn't hold water. If anything I find most high school girls to be more prudish than ever. I do high school counseling. I have been an Asst Principle and middle school teacher. I would guess off hand over 70% of graduating seniors are virgins, boys and girls. Same goes for gay and lesbian experimenting, way overblown.

The biggest issues are broken homes, financial dislocations, sibling concerns, not sex. They are very aware of sex, but that doesn't translate into inadvisable behavior. We have well over fifty percent active in church and other civic organizations. Kids are good, respectful, helpful. I take offense as to how kids are pictured on social media.

Our school system serves mostly middle income households, 20% Anglo, %60 Hispanic, and the other 20%, black, Asian, etc. Representative of the community we serve. Our college bound kids follow the national average, few if any apply to private out of state 'elite' style universities. Our employer base knows the best graduates come from our local post secondary systems. In a couple of words 'work ethic'. Trade schools, junior college level Associate degrees, four year business, engineering, etc. Graduates pursuing humanities have much lower placements, again following national averages.

To be honest, my generation was much more promiscuous.

I'm curious why you view sex as "inadvisable behavior" and people who have sex as "sluts". This is judgmental and might not be grounded in medical and psychological fact. To what extent are these views consistent with your counseling background?

From a medical perspective, the tools to prevent pregnancy and STIs have never been better, nor more readily accessible.

Unless the current federal government gets its way, children under 26 remain covered by their parents' health plans, and virtually all health plans must cover vaccinations (HPV, Hep A and Hep B are the relevant ones for the groups you serve, plus Mpx for gay adolescents), HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (good for all genders and critical for young people, who account for a disproportionate share of new infections), doxy-PEP (for gay adolescents), and birth control.

Research shows newer, long-acting reversible methods like the implant work best for young girls, who might not adhere to a daily birth control pill regimen. For unplanned contact, two morning-after pill formulations are available without prescription in almost every pharmacie in the country.

Psychologically, lack of sexual experience might deny people emotional closeness now and in the future. Imagine being inexperienced at the point of entering an adult long-term relationship, when the stakes are high (societal pressure to marry and be monogamous, high emotional and material costs if a marriage ends in divorce, latent emotional cost if the partners stay together but stop being intimate or turn to others for secret intimacy).

What's more, there has never been greater awareness of consent.

I think most authorities would say low-stakes, early (but still safe and reasonable) sexual experimentation serves a purpose. Certainly this is the position of Robin Baker, Ph.D.

I would agree. Just 2 years younger than you. I was banging my girlfriend daily from sophomore year through graduating. I think part of the problem is cell phones. Kids are just glued to their screens and interacting through social media as insta rather than connecting physically. My daughter just graduated high school. When hanging with friends they are all on their phones together.

Kids today are too lazy to have sex. They’re more interested in their phones.

Great post. There are a lot of variables here, but yes I agree with your conclusions. Sexual activity in the 14-18 set has probably always been more hype than reality

I am a 66 year old male. Still loving fucking women. Weather if it be in her mouth, ass or pussy. Do you enjoy anal sex? or when you were a bit younger.

Have you ever wondered whether these high school girls are lying to you about how their sex lives? IMO, they very likely are taking the position that it's none of your damn business.
